SUBMARINE MAY HAVE SAVED MALTA
LONDON, January 28. Witli the return of the submarine Porpoise after a 1-1 months' trip, in the Mediterranean, it is now possible to tell one of the most dramatic stories about Malta’s great fight. Last year when the German air attacks had reached their height against the island, tlie Porpoise kept Malta supplied with vital petrol. This under-water supply service enabled R.A.F. fighters to hang on, hit back, and finally rout the Luftwaffe. The Porpoise also sent half a dozen Axis ships to the bottom.
