Spreading Offensive

(Received January 29, 1.30 a.m.) LONDON, January 28.

Berlin radio has divulged that the Russians are attacking north-west of Voronezh in a sector which has not previously been mentioned. Simultaneously with the strengthening of the pressure smith and smith-west of Voronezh, the Russians have attacked in the new sector with considerable forces of infantry supported by strong armmired formations. Reuter's .Moscow correspondent says that the Russians’ new advance west of Voronezh has reached a point 75 miles from Kursk, and they have cut the main Moscow-Taganrog railway at a point 25 miles south of the key junction of Kastornoye.

The Russian forces further south on the north.th and north eastern approaches to Rostov are consolidating their positions before launching a fresh attack. Moscow reports state that the newly recaptured town of Neftegorsk, which is 30 miles south-west of Maikop, is the centre of one of the newest and best oilfields in the Caucasus, developed in 1935. It produces oil yielding a higher proportion of aviation spirit, than Maikop. The Russians have also <-apliircd Apsheronskoye, 20 miles smith-west of .Maikop. The Swiss radio says it is report-

ed from Stockholm that the. Russians have captured I’etsamo in northern I'inland.
