AS GOOD AS THE GUARDS

Tribute To Officer Cadets

“This is as good as yo u will see the Guards turn on,” said a senior officer witli long experience of the Army in New Zealand and overseas when 206 officer cadets from the Army School of Instruction were about to begin their ceremonial parade at their passing out ceremony this week. An American officer endorsed this tribute after .the parade. The Adju-tant-General, Brigadier A. E. Conway, 0.8. E., N.Z.S.C., who reviewed the parade and took tlie salute, later paid the officer cadets a high compliment for their steadiness, general bearing and marching. The advance in review order —a line SO yards long and three lines deep moving as one man —was one of the finest displays witnessed at this camp area during the present war. Brigadier Conway told the officer cadets that it would give him great pleasure to inform the General Officer Commanding. Lieut.-General Puttick, D. 5.0., iN.Z.S.C., of the display he had witnessed. Brigadier Conway, accompanied by Major J. Downs, 2nd N.Z.E.F., G. 5.0.2 (Training), Army Headquarters, was met at the parade ground by Lieut.-Coionel J. N. Henry, N.Z.S.C., commandant of the Army School. The general salute was taken by Brigadier Conway, who then reviewed the officer cadets. The march past followed, nnd then a second general salute. A mobilization camp band under Captain Pike played for the ceremony, making its usual fine-contribution to an occasion which wn? above the usual in excellence. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends of the newly commissioned officers who were entertained at afternoon tea by the Army School staff. The New Zealand Commandant of tlie Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps, Mrs. Vida Jowett, and 28 members of the AV.A.A.C., who are taking an officer cadet course at Army School, also witnessed the passing put ceremony.
