Late News IMPORTANT GAIN

Pushing Forward On Guadalcanal ENEMY LOSE LANDING POINT (By Telegraph,—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Received January 27, 1.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON; 26. The Americans’ capture of Kokumbuua, says the Associated Press ot America, is one of the greatest conquests i he American land forces in the Solomons have made. It advances the American front lines two or three miles beyond Point Cruz, depriving the enemy of the coastal point used in landing supplies and reinforcements. Furthermore, it considerably reduces the total area over, which the enemy can manoeuvre and hide in tenacious attempts io maintain his toehold on Guadalcanal. The Americans are apparently pushing their front forward in an effort to bottle up and. wipe out the dwindling Japanese forces on-the north-western end of the island.
