NATIONAL SAVINGS

Results Of Quota Scheme Following the resumption of national savings activities after the holidays, bi towns attained their national savings quotas last week. Six provincial centres were successful —Gisborne, Invercargill, Napier, New Plymouth, .Wanganui, and Westport. In numbers the Canterbury district was top for the week, with 12 successes, and Taranaki second Yvith nine. The latter was highest on a percentage basis. Nine places still record an unbroken series of successes since the inception of the quota scheme in October, 1941. These are New Plymouth, Ashburton, Hawera, Kaikoura, Hunterville, Hawarden, Cheviot, Urenui, and Weber. During the last three weeks Wellington has failed to reach its National Savings quota of fSOOO on each occasion. Tho holiday period was undoubtedly responsible for a falling off in National Savings receipts, but now that, the quota campaign has again been introduced al supporters of National Saving's are enjoined to restrict spending to absolute essentials and invest a portion of their current earnings in this form of gilt-edged security. Monday’s receipts amounted to £2133, leaving a balance of £5867 to be subscribed during tiie week to achieve the quota.
