< British Ollieial Wireless.) (Received January 25. 7 p.m.) RUGBY. January 24
A coniniuniuue dealing with the loot! situation in India, which was issued in New Delhi today by the Government of India, says: "Tlie Government, is aware that wheat has been in particularly short supply, while the prices of other grains have risen considerably. The Government believes that these shortages arc due less to the loss of Burma and other war conditions than Io hoarding by producers, dealers and consumers alike, and there is little danger of tiie people of India having to undergo any serious reduction in their normal reuuirements if these sunnlies can be equitably distributed, "The Government, therefore, is tilde to aniiiiunec Hint substantial shipments of wheal reaching India in the next few months will be allocated under Government orders to Hie deficit areas, where Government agencies will supervise the distribution at reasonable prices to Hie ultimate consumers. Steps are being taken Io prevent further hoarding. The Government agencies are also empowered Io purchase anil distribute oilier grains."
