WELLINGTON CHESS CLUB

Eighteen members of the Wellington Chess Club are taking part in a gambit tourney, which began on Saturday evening In each game one of three gambits has’to be offered and accepted,’Evans, or King’s, or Danish. The first round winners in section A were Allerhand, J. L. Hardy and H. Davies; Severne Steele and E. Hutchings scored in section B. Three other fixtures were postponed. It is six rears since the club staged the previous gambit tourney, which was won by Severne. , , , . „ A lightning tourney was held in tne club’s rooms on Thursday evening, the winner being H. McNabb, a former champion of the Nelson Chess Club. Hie run-ner-up was D. Steele, an ex-champion of the Wellington College Chess Club It is proposed to hold a 12-a-Side match, Palmerston North V. Wellington at Paekakariki about the middle of next month Mr. F. K. Kelling is the organizer in MellingtQ Jlr J C McCrea, who has done much valuable work for the cause of chess iu the Dominion during the past four decades, left Wellington to make his home in Auckland a year ago. He is at present on a visit to Wellington.
