SWIMMING CARNIVAL
A caruival will be staged by the M ellington Amateur Swimming Club at the Thorndon Baths next Saturday evening. Both scratch and handicap events will figure on the programme, and it is hoped that a number of service swimmers, both Americans and New Zealanders of both sexes, will *be among the competitors. The Wellington team will have returned from Hie North Island intermediate and women’s championship meeting at Hamilton, and tlieir presence should increase interest. u Thu programme will include scratch races for servicemen over 6U 2-3 yards and 33 1-3 yards freestyle and bll 2-3 Jarus backstroke. There will also be a 100 yards relav with three men in each team, and n diving contest. The handicap events will include a HU 2-3 yards freestyle race. Jstforts arc being made to arrange a polo malch between two service teams. The proceeds; will be devoted to BUidin„ parcels to members of the Wellington Swimming Club serving with the military forces overseas.
