Endeavours To Get Supplies GOVERNMENT ACTION /j»y Telegraph.— Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 22. That the Government already had the supply position for civilian clothing under consideration was stated by the Minister of Supply,.Mr. Sullivan, in replying today to representations by the tailors of Christchurch. Slocks of materials on hand were discussed at a well-attended meeting of city bespoke tailors on Wednesday evening ami the difficulty, of obtaining supplies whs emphasized. It was stated that the meeting had decided to place the .position before the Minister with a request that further supplies' of suitings from New Zealand mills be made available to the trade. Mr. Sullivan said his department was at present making a thorough survey of the position in regard to stocks, and other action was being taken. The mission which had gone to Great Britain from New Zealand was negotiating for the delivery of supplies to tbit* country, and representations we,re also being jnade in America. Military contracts were also 'being reviewed. An endeavour would be made to assist bespoke tailors, but the success or otherwise of these endeavours would, in the main, depend upon the success achieved by the Government’s representations overseas to which he had referred.
