KEEN BIDDING FOR CHOICE LOTS

Some fine types of yearlings were paraded on the second and concluding day of the National sales at Trentham yesterday, and for the choice lots there was keen competition. Agents operating for Indian and Australian buyers were active, and tlie top price, 1400gns., went to tlie first Foxbridge colt to enter the ring, a shapely brown out of the Chief Ruler mare Rippling Waters, thus a brother to Water Vixen and half-brother to Water Hound. He was purchased on behalf of Mr. F. 11. ‘Meta, Bombay, who has been racing Banco successfully here this seaThe Foxbridges from the Trelawney Stud, where the champion sire is located, all sold well. They were excellent sorts, typical of their sire, the three colts selling for 2760gn5.. an average of 920gns„ and three fillies for 1450gns. at an average of just over 483gns. With a Vermeer filly at ISOgns. the Trelawney lot totalled 49u0 gns. . . The next top price, 1200gns„ was paid by the Te Rapa trainer A. Winder, buying for a client, for a chestnut colt by Battle Song from Princess Pam, the dam of Lady Pam. J. T. Jamieson, also acting as agent, got a nice brown colt by Defaulter the Imported mare Merry Miss for 925gn5., and F. Smith, also for a client, paid OOOgns. for a half-brother by Lang Blau to Kiilanut. There were two lots sold at 800gns. The half-brother to the leading two-year-old Sea Spi, a chestnut colt by Golden Eagle from Ruling Spi was sold to right, Stephenson and Co., operating for an Indian buyer, and a black colt by Foxbridge out of Shirred Ribbon, u first ioal, was bought by L. IL Collinson. Palmerston North J. L. Clieesman, Wellington, paid 725gns. for a black filly by Foxbridge out of Ann Acre, the half-sister to Kentucky, and Wellington, through C. McFarland, also secured at 675gns. the brown boxbridge filly, half-sister to Varuna. There were four prices over uOOgns., nW! for the brown Foxbridge colt out of the imported mare Grey Eagle, which went to C. C. Davis, Christchurch; u;>o for the bay colt bv Battle Song from Helen Gold, thus httlf-brother to Happicoat, to 11. Dulleu. New Plymouth, and for the Bulandshar colt out of imported Medusa to W. J. Crawford, Palmerston North, and 525 for tho Foxbridge filly out of My Own, dam of Yours Truly, purchased by J. Jameson, Masterton. For 155 lots put into the ring and sold during the two days 2f).G424gns. was pais*, an average of nearly 252gns. Before the opening of tlie sale the brown colt by Coronach from Lady Phroso, incidentally the only Coronach on offer, was paraded in the ring, and the auctioneer. Mr C E. Robertson, stated that lie had been sold at a four-figure price privately to Mr. R. L. Atkinson, North Queensland. The position as explained by Mr. Robertson was that the breeder, Mr. G. 1. Moore, hod given an option on the colt to tne prospective bityer, the purchase -to be subject to inspection. His Inclusion in the catalogue was due to the fact that it lie had not been passed and the catalogue closed he could not subsequently be ineluded apd come up for sale. However, he had been passed and so was sojd according to contract and would be withdrawn. The colt was to be trained at Randwick by M. McCarten. Aucklanders again operated very freely.
