U.S. MISGIVINGS
Peyrouten’s Appointment
NEW YORK, January 21
“Pertinax,” the French publicist, says he understands that it is planned to appoint General Catroux (the Fighting French commander in the Middle East) president of a special board to co-ordin-ate General de Gaulle’s and General Giroud’s movements. General Catroux instead of General de Gaulle, would go to Algiers to reach an agreement between the two leaders. The Washington correspondent of the “New York Times” say» that M. Peyrouten’s appointment, as Governor-General of Algeria has caused marked misgivings and n<> enthusiasm in informed quarters in Washington, but there ia a disposition to assume that General Eisenhower, the Allied Commander-in-Chief, had reasons for approving the appointment.
