There will be live candidates in the Christehurch East by-election following the death of the Hon. 11. T. Armstrong. Nominal ions closed at noon today. The nominations are: —-Miss Mabel Howard (Labour), Messrs. M. h. Lyons (National). 11. E. Herring (Democratic Labour). O. -I. F. McKee (Independent Socialist). and L. A. Effort! (‘Twice candidate). Mr. IV. Julius Hyde. Wellington, will not. go to the poll. He called on Ihe returning officer just betore nominations closed to advise him ho would not be standing as an Independent as two nominators were not forthcoming.
