Relations Broken Off
(Received January 21, 7 p.m.) SANTIAGO, January 20. The Senate has voted in favour of a rupture with the Axis. The Governinent notified other American Governments yesterday that. Chile is breaking off relations with the Axis. The Chilean Ambassador called on the Brazilian Foreign Minister yesterday and intimated that Chile had broken off relations with the Axis. Tie said President Rios had signed the decree at 9 a.m. yesterday. In Washington the Chilean Ambassador formally notified Mr. Sumner Welles, the Under-Secretary of State, that Chile had broken off diplomatic relations with Germany, Japan, and Italy.
