CANBERRA, January 21.
A social service plan being prepared by the Federal Government is understood to provide for the spending of £60,000,000 in the next three years. Details are expected to be announced by the Treasurer, Mr. Uhifley, when Parliament meets next week. The plan provides for a first instalment expenditure of £30,000,000, the remaining £30,000,000 to be spread over the rest of the three-year term. Federal circles regard the plan as the Government's answer to those who demand an .improved social system and a guarantee of social security after the war. The proposals are believed to provide for: (1) Improved repatriation rights, including pensions for servicewomen. 12) .Sustenance for servicemen between demobilization and civilian re-employment and higher service pensions. (3) National health and medical services.
(4) Maternal and child welfare services and pre-natal and post-natal payments to mothers.
(5) Unemployment benefits and a national housing plan.
