“Stay Order” To Continue
The Kat Stock Disposal Order,- known to the meat trade as the “’stay order,” is agtlin to operate (his year. The Minister of Marketing, Mr. Barclay, said last evening that, as producers and melt operators were aware,, these regulations were first introduced to secure the maximum conservation of petrol'aud of tyres by the elimination of unnecessary <>”hrlapping and competition in the buying ef live stock. ... “The necessity to conserve both benzine and tyres is even greater this year than it was last year, and the various district committees will therefore bo directed to continue their work of organizing the purchase and transport of stock to freezing- works on the most economical basis, said Mr. Barclay. “These committees, which functioned so successfully last year, are entitled to receive the full support and co-operation of producers and meat operators. Any persons or firms who in any way hinder the work of the committees arc definitely retarding the war effort. „ “The basis of the regulations remains unchanged, and producers will again be required to dispose of I heir live stock through the same channels that they utilized in previous years. The introduction of a fixed buying schedule by agreement between the Government, the Meat Board and the meat operators ensures full price protection for the farmer. “It is recognized that, in the case or pi-'s, the strict adherence to the stay put'' Order is not practicable, but at Lie same time there must be a maximum savin” of petrol and tyres, and any operators who fail to achieve this objective frill automatically have their licences reviewed.’’
