Lost In Midway Battle
NEW YORK, November 5. The Pearl Harbour correspondent of the “New York Times” says that of 41 torpedo planes which the navy sent against the Japanese fleet in the battle of Midway Island, only six returned. The crews of the remainder sacrificed their lives keeping swarms of Japanese fighters away from the dive-bombers which sank four Japanese carriers. The navy disclosed that Torpedo Squadrons 5 aud 6 lost almost as beatj ily as 'Squadron S, which lost all 10 planes and all but one of its 30 officers and men.
