HIGH JUMP RECORD

Wellington College Sports

The highlight at the annual sports of Wellington College yesterday, which were held' in ideal weather, on the college grounds was the breaking of the high jump record by G. 11. Milne, who cleared sft. 6in., beating the sft. siin. put up by J. To Moana, which had stood since 1928. The sports were, excellently managed by the college staff, the large fields being dispatched throughout the day with commendable promptitude, and a good standard of performance was maintained. The senior championship was won by A. 11. E. Munden, with 9 points. He won the 4-10 yards, was second in the mile, third in the 220 yards, second in the half-mile, and third in the high jump. Three competitors tied as runners-up— J. A. Livesage, K. R. Fox, and G. 11. Milne, who each scored 8 points. The junior championship was carried off by L. J. Parkinson, who took two firsts and four seconds, to score 14 points, G. G. Mexted coming next with 9 points. At the presentation of prizes, Mr. W. A. Armour, headmaster of the college, said that these sports had been held each year since the college was established in 1874. and yet it was a marvellous thing that each year records continued to be broken, which was a good thing for the country. They had been specially pleased that day to sec that so many old boys of the college in the fighting forces had been able to obtain leave to attend the sports. One of the members of the fighting forces, Lieutenant-Colonel C. J. W. Parsons, discarded' his military tunic, and won the old boys’ race in convincing style. The prizes were presented by Mrs. Armour. Following are the results:— Championship K vents. 22(lyds„ for Oscar Kember Cup: J. A. Leversage, 1: K. It. Fox, 2: A. It. Munden.’ 3. 'rime, 23 2-5.
