THREE CHILDREN DEAD

’ Tragic Fire At Otautau FOURTH BADLY BURbJT (By Telegraph.—Prose Association.) INVERCARGILL, November 5. Three children are dead as the result of a fire which destroyed a. fiveroomed house at Otautau last night. They areMervyn Currie, aged 4 years. Nonnan Currie, aged 3 years. Howard Currie, aged 18 months. They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. John Currie. A fourth' child, Ivau, aged five years, is seriously ill in the Riverton Hospital as the result of burns. His condition tonight was reported to be satisfactory. It is understood that the children were alone in the house when the fire was discovered. There is no fire brigade at Otautau. Three of the children were rescued from the burning building by Private Keith Ridley, who is on leave from a military camp. Private Ridley first noticed the fire at about 9.35 p.m., and on his arrival found one of the front rooms ablaze, with Ualnes coining from both windows. Hearing the cries of the children, he broke into another room to find three of the boys, whom h.e brought out of the house. The baby son could not be found because of the impossibility of searching some of the rooms which were then ablaze. Of the three brought out of the house Mervyn died last night and Norman died in hospital this morning.
