SELF-DENIAL APPEAL
The conclusion of the Salvation Arniy’s self-denial effort this year was marked by an ingathering meeting, conducted by Commissioner J. Evan Smith in the \ ivian Street Citadel. He : announced that the sum of £31,148 had raised, which-was an increase of £oi.9< over last year’s amount . ■ .' \ ' “This result'is, indicative of the good-, will of the people.of New Zealand toward the army,’’ said the coimnissioncr, “and of the standing which the army has. won by the consecration, devotion, and saei’iiicial service of its. officers, local Officers, anth soldiers. The army ft service to our boys at the front and in New Zealand camps is inuch appreciated by theirfamilies. . “Tn these days of crisis there is more need than ever for a ministry such as the army can' give', and its good service in keeping up the morale of. our servicemen and women and the- civilian, population places it in the front! rank of national assets.”
