MUSICIANS’ AWARD
Use Of Non-Union Players Concern at the practice of patriotic entertniiiineiit and other committees engaging non-unionists to play at functions under their jurisdiction was being felt by the New Zealand Musicians’ Union, said the national secretary, Mr. T. E. Skinner. While it was the union’s desire not to take any action which might hamper the assistance given to members of the fighting forces, it should be understood that in the employment of musicians, who were not members of the ttnion, fit a function where an adniission charge was made, award rates and conditions must apply, said Mr. Skinner. Otherwise a breach of the award was committed. “Nobody could accuse musicians ot being unpatriotic us they have contributed as much to the war effort as, if not more than, any other one section of the community,” he said.
