NOT GOOD ENOUGH
Mayor Asks For Better Response
“The governor of the Reserve Bank announced today that the total amount subscribed for tiie second Liberty Loan, including advance subscriptions, is now £5,531,000, representing 6772 applicants,” said the mayor of Wellington, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, as chairman of the Wellington District Committee.
“Tlie public response since the opening of the loan has not beeu nearly good enough,” continued Mr. Hislop. •'Only a very s-niall proportion of those who can do so have yet given tangible evidence of their willingness to support the arjned forces with their money. Think of the number of business firms, professional men, salaried men and wage-earners in receipt of substantial incomes and then realize what a small proportion of these 0772 represent. Afore subscribers are urgently needed if New Zealand wishes to feel proud of her response to the call for an all-in war effort on the financial side. The governor of the Reserve Bank therefore urges the public to back up the efforts of the district committees and come forward at once with their subscriptions. No amount is too small.”
