ROUNDABOUT NEWS OF BATTLE

(Received November 3, 8.40 p m.) LONDON, November 2. Tlfe utmost reticence is still observed and correspondents are experiencing difficulties in providing a full picture of tins vitally important battle, says “The Times” correspondent with the Eighth Army. The only source of news from the desert is the radio. Every evening nil who can —correspondents, officers, and meh—gather- to listen to the 8.8. C. So far the broadcasts have failed to give anything but a most incomplete picture of what is happening except as far as the air war is concerned. The failure is in no way due to tlie 8.8.C.’s observers or the other correspondents. Many troops under stand-by orders are annoyed.
