MOTOR TRADE FEDERATION

The New Zealand Motor Trade Federation was giving a real service to the war effort because many of its wide activities were now in association with the Government, said the president, Mr. A. B. Gibbons, at its annual meeting, held last week, following the annual meeting of the New Zealand Retail Motor Trade Association. The large attendance included representatives from all over the Dominion. The concluding event of the series of meetings of motor trade organizations, of which this was-one, was a visit to the plant of General Motors in I’ctone for the purpose of inspecting the work there. About 75 members of the federation attended and, as a large number of the members of the motor industry are sub-contractors to General Motors, the visit was of extreme value to them. Mr. J. Coates, production manager of General Motors, welcomed the visitors, who were conducted in small parties right throughout the plant. The following officers of the federation were elected for the ensuing year:— President, Mr. Haskell Anderson, Wellington; vice-president, Mr. T. B. Cavaghan, 'Wellington; secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. R. Edmond; auditor, Mr. I. J. iMackersey; representatives to the council,' Messrs. A. B. and M. G. Phelan, representing the -New Zealand Wholesale Automobile Parts, Equipment and Cycle Association; Messrs. J. E. Salmon and C. Veron. representing the New Zealand Storage Battery Manufacturers’ Association; Messrs. T. B. Cavaghan and D. IT. Taylor, representing the Coach and iMotor Body Builders’ Industrial Association of Employers. Representatives of the New Zealand Retail Motor'Trade Association are: Messrs. M. "Wall and AV. Fraser (garage section), G. D. Fitzgerald and A. AV. Morrison (tyre section), AV. M. King and C. H. Preston (petrol section), F. H. Gruar and C. J.
