P. & T. OFFICIAL RETIRING
After 41 years with the Post and Telegraph Department, during which he has occupied the positions of ■ commercial manager, principal of the telegraph division, and deputy director-general, Mr. W. R. Newall will retire shortly. His appointment as commercial manager synchronized with the adoption of commercial methods ip the. Post Office, and it is largely due to his organizing ability, vision and sound commercial viexvs that this has been so successful. Before that, Mr. Newall was closely identified with the telecommunications side of the department, embracing both engineering and traffic branches. I'or the last 23 years he has been in the head office. Mr. Newall’s retirement has been caused by the loss of his sight. However, the benefit of his experience will not bo lost to the department, as for the duration of the war he bus agreed to act m an advisory capacity in connexion with telecommunications.
