An average number of cows and heifers came forward and a good demand resulted in a steady sale at full late rates. ADDINGTON (By Telegraph.— Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 28. At the Addington market the store sheep entry totalled about 1700. Owing to the improved feed conditions the demand far exceeded the supply. In consequence, prices, specially for woolly ewes and lambs, showed an advance of up to 2/a head. The highest price for ewes and lambs was 19/6 all counted, and others sold at from 15/5 to 17/5. Ewe hoggets realized up to 35/6, one pen of 213 halfbreds making 32/-. Woolly wettiers, mixed ages, made 23/5. There was keen competition for the few shorn sheep, two-tootli wethers making up to 27/3. and four and six-tootli wethers sold for 29/-. The fat sheep yarding was about 4000, the same as hist week. It comprised mostly shorn sheep. Some good,lines of shorn wethers sold at prices wt'll up to recent, rates, but there was a preponderance of medium to inferior quality sheep which dropped in value, many being passed. Two truck lots of shorn southern wethers met keeii competition. One truck of 51 sold from. 40/7 to 41/4, averaging 41/-, and another of 54 made from 40/1 to 42/10. averaging 42/3. Woolly sheep were not much sought, after. Top price for ewes was 41/7, blit generally the entry of woolly sheep was of unattractive quality.

. The fat cattle entry of 471! again met with keen competition and though there was a slight easing of about I's/-- a head, prices were still on a high level. Best beet made from 52/- to 54/- per 1001 b., some to 50/-, medium to good, 47/- Io 51/-; ordinary, -12/- to 46/-; inferior down to 35/-. One line of 16 steers averaged £26 17/6, tile top pen making £27/12/6. Another truck lot of eight averaged £2l 10/-. A draft of 20 steers averaged £2l 2/6. and another of eight, £23/7/6. The porker yarding was small at the commencement of the sale, but later arrivals caused values over the second half of the sale to drop 3/- to 4/- a head. Best quality baconers sold keenly at last, week's rates,'but overfat pigs were hard to quit.. Light porkers brought 52/6 to 59/6; med-ium,-£3/2/6 to £3/8/6; heavy, £3/14/6 to £-1/4/6; average price a lb., S4d. to lOd.; light baconers, £4/14/6 to £5/16/-: medium. £5/4/6 to £5/16/6; heavy £5/10/6 to £6/14/6; overfat sorts, £4/7/- to £4/15/-; average price a lb., Sil. to lOd.

WANGANUI Dominion Special Service. • WANGANUI, October 28. Freeman R, Jackson and Co., Ltd., report as follows on the Wanganui sale:— Shearing operations being in full swing, a rather smaller attendance for the size of the yarding was present than usual. The store cattle comprised mainly yearling I’.A. and Hereford steers and heifers, which met with a rather slow sale. A good yarding of Jersey yearling heifers also came forward, but not many sales were made under the hammer. Store sheep were ou a par with late rates and a particularly good line of ewe hoggets met with keen competition. Eat cattle and fat sheep also reached last week’s figures, and a small yarding of pigs met with a renily demand. HASTINGS, October 28, An easier tone was evident in the store cattle market at Stortford Lodge today, when the values of steers Und young bullocks were 5/- lower than last week and from 5/- to 7/(1 below yesterday's market at Waipuknrau. A feature was the outstanding yearling white-faced heifers, which made tho season’s highest price of £5/12/6. Gis'borne-bred dehorned Hereford cows in exceptionally good condition, with calves, brought £B/15/-. Fouryear store bullocks brought from £9/19/to £lO/5/- and forward £lO/15/-. , tlireevear steers made to £O/10/-. two-year steers £S/10/-, and good yearling steers £6/17/-. The windy conditions during the last, week accounted for a quieter market, for sheep. ’Woolly hoggets were 1/- cheaper and bettor class ewew with lambs down 1/6. Two-tooth wethers also, sold in buyers’ favour, from 18/1 to 19/10. Very forward four-tooth wethers made 24/10. Values for ewes were fully 1/- a head cheaper. The yarding of fat sheep was in excess of requirements and a number of pons wore overweight. A steady demand was shown for spring lambs, tho top pen. averaging 351 b. works weight to a shade better, realized 32/4. Other pens made, according to weight. 20/1 to 30/4. An Elsthorpe entry, mixed in size, ranged front 26/10 to 31/10; woolly prime wethers made from 32/7 to 36/10: woolly ewes, 23/7: best shorn ewes, 15/10/- to 17/1; ■others, to 15/.1; prime shorn maiden fouritooths, 18/10, « Because of the very short yarding, values for beef advanced. Tito quality was very’ mixed and ox beef was in short supply. Heavy Holstein cross bullocks brought from £l4/1/- to £l5/8/6 and Jersey cross £l3/18/6. Prime whlte-fneed heifers made from £lO/6/- to £ll/16/-, witli the cows ranging from £B/16/- to £O/18/6. Prime spreyod heifers made from £lO/1/. to £42/1/-. Second grade cows made much dearer buying on the (lay at £B/6/-. Extra good venlertt made to £7/7/-: Jersey runners, £6/4/-.
