HOLIDAY WORK FOR COLLEGE PUPILS

Following on a report by Miss P. L. Jull, girls’ vocational guidance officer, on the employment of girls as fruitpickers, the Wellington College Board of Governors has decided to inquire of the manpower authorities whether adequate accommodation and supervision can be provided for college pupils who are willing to undertake work during the Christmas holidays. / Miss Jull stated that the manpower committee was seeking to ensure that the work of fruit-picking would not be delayed this summer through lack ot workers. She had made inquiries in the secondary schools of Wellington and the Hutt Valiev to see how many girls would be available for this work, and the response bad been very good. Some hundreds of girls bad expressed their willingness to go, provided that the question of adequate accommodation and proper supervision was satisfactorily settled. She had been in touch with the manpower officer at Nelson and was awaiting his reply before proceeding any further. If it were necessary she would go to Nelson ami see the accommodation herself before making final arrangements witli the girls. . , . . 'Pile chairman ot tlie board, Mr. n. V.
