Board announces (hat in pursuance of its extension policy, it. lias recently allocated £250 each to all the religious bodies which are doing medical and leper work in the British Solomons Protectorate. 'These are the Melanesian Mission (Anglican), .Methodist Mission, Seventh Day Adventist Mission, Marist Mission (Catholic), mid South Sea Evangelical Mission. The authorities concerned have given an undertaking to use this money for leper work only and not for religious purposes. Very little is being done for the DOO lepers in these islands, and a major ,grant of £5OOO is being held in trust by Sir Philip Mitchell, High Commissioner for the Western Pacific, for extensive leper work when, the war is over. In addition to the above £3OOO has been allotted for leper work in the Cook and Samoan groups. The work of the Makogni Lepers Trust Board is non-sectarian. It is well known to those in authority that the greater number of the leper patients at Makogni are not of the same religious persuasion as the nursing sisters.
