Fire-Watching
Sir, —As a willing fire-watcher, so long as it is of real service to the country, I read in your issue of today a long screed by Mr. Tindale. I suggest that _ Mr. Tindale, and everyone who is associated in the direction of the organizing of this particular service, who does not actually participate and do his watch because of exemption, should take over the duty for a period, Christmas Day to New Year inclusive. Full-time, twenty-four hour watch, with meals in, and on premises which they do not usually work in. This would give a few of the faithful watchers for months past a few days off, which they would appreciate. It would also be a comfort to the others to know Mr. Tindale and others know by experience what they ask others to do. —I am, etc., X. Wellington, October 21.
