Abolition Of Voluntary Recruiting Urged

General Hershey, Director of Selective Service, testifying before the Military Committee of the Senate, recommended tlie abolition of voluntary recruiting for the armed forces aud additional curbs on non-essential industries to overcome the manpower shortage. He said: Agriculture must decide what must be grown next year and what can be done without. 'lndustry must halt the stealing of workers and must eliminate prejudices against employing women. We are not getting the maximum from manpower. Industry must become more efficient and adopt longer hours to keep the production lines at the required pace.”
