Women Helpers Meet

The annual meeting of the Toe fl League of Women Helpers of New Zealand, was held over the weekend at Wallis House, Lower Hutt. Delegates were present as follows; —Mrs. Mavis Wren (Auckland), Mrs. Dorothy Metcalf (New Plymouth), Mrs. F. J. Carter and Mrs. Githa Preston (Wellington), Mrs. S. E. Masters and Miss Nance Hendry (Nelson), Miss Jean Marriage and Miss Jean Stewart (Dunedin), and' Misses Edith Tod, Dominion secretary, and Margaret 'McDougall. Dominion treasurer, and the Rev. O. W. Williams, Dominion padre (Christchurch).

An amended constitution was provisionally adopted. Reports of service were rendered by delegates. The stull fund was reported to have reached £350, and the general balance £37. Plans for youth clubs, hospitality Io women in the services, hospital library service and auxiliary war work were approved. News of (lie marked success of Talliot. House Clqbs in Malta and the Middle East were received from members on war service.

On Monday afternoon the council was vitited by the patroness, her Excellency Lady Ne’wall, who was accompanied by Miss Nora 'Walton. Iler Excellency was received by Bishop Holland, Mr. Wallis, and the Dominion executive committee. In the course of an informal meeting the patroness learned of the varied activities of the Dominion branches, and then addressed the members, stressing the need today for thoughtful study, ami discretion in all relationships. Following the address, for which Lady Newell was thanked most cordially, the ceremony of light was taken in the chapel by her Excellency. The Bishop then-took prayers for the council. Afternoon tea was served, mid informal contacts were made.

Bishop Holland gave a message to the representatives present, ehargirfg them io study social problems ami to reiheml>er the imperative need for thought before action.

Ohl girls of Marsden School. Kurori, are invited to attend the weekend activities as advertised in this issue. Spools dny is on Friday, mid the old girls’ meeting on Saturday.
