APPEALS DECIDED
Manpower Industrial Committee Further decisions of the Manpower Industrial Committee in 'Wellington on appeals made before it ihave been announced as follows: — J. S. Shingletou: The decision of the district manpower officer, Lower Hutt, refusing him permission to terminate his employment with the New Zealand Railways, was upheld. The committee expressed the opinion that only in very special circumstances should workers employed in essential undertakings be allowed to leave their employment in order to become trainees; no such special circumstances existed in this case. Miss H. M. Barraclough: The appeal against the decision of the district manpower officer, Wellington, refusing her permission to terminate employment with the Air Department was disallowed. An appeal by Miss R. E. Harris against a similar decision was also disallowed. J. H. Duncalf: An appeal against the decision of the district manpower officer, Lower Hutt, refusing appellant permission to terminate his employment as a meter-reader with the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board, was disallowed. An appeal by J. Grant, a linesman in the employ of the same power board, against a similar decision of the district manpower officer, Lower Hutt, was allowed, appellant to terminate his employment on October 31, and to report immediately to the manpower officer for direction into another essential industry.
