MILITARY MEDAL
Awards To -New Zealanders
The immediate award of the Military Medal to two members of the Second N.Z.E.F, for distinguished service in the Middle East has been approved by the King. The men concerned are Driver Edward Frederick Foley, whose next-of-kin is Mrs. M. K. 'Foley, 9 Rona Avenue, Auckland, and Staff-Sergeant William George Penney, whose next-of-kin is Mrs. B. Penney, Kaikohe. ■ _ Driver Foley was. born in Awauui on July 5, 1917. He enlisted in October, 1939, and left New Zealand with the first echelon with the Reserve MT. Company. He was reported missing after the Greek campaign in June, 1941, and after the occupation of that country by the enemy, he escaped and returned to Egypt in June, 1942. Staff-Sergeant Penney was born iu Whangaroa, on March 21, 1906. He belonged to the North Auckland Mounted Rifles and enlisted on September 4, ] 039, and left New Zealand with the second echelon. He was reported missing after the campaign in Greece in June, 1941, and in December he was reported prisoner of war and was believed to have been transferred to Germany. In June, 1942, he was reported safe in New Zealand Base Camp, Middle East.
