TEACHING ESSENTIAL
Public Schools And Colleges
An announcement that teaching iu all schools and colleges coming within tlie jurisdiction of the Education Department, or of the University of New Zealand, bud 'been declared essential, was made yesterday by the Minister of Industrial Manpower, Mr. McLagan. “The ranks of the teaching profession have been heavily depleted by the withdrawal of men for military service," said Mr. McLagan, “and the stage has been reached where every possible stop must be taken to conserve teaching staffs so as to maintain the minimum educational requirements of the Dominion. It will now be necessary for a teacher who wishes to transfer from n position with one education authority to a position with another education authority to obtain the consent of a district 'manpower officer. Such consent is not, however, required where the new position is under the same education authority.” The -Minister said that, the declaration did not apply to teaehere employed in private schools.
