Tribute From Consul’s Wife Women members of the English-Speak-ing Union in Wellington met at a morning tea party in honour of Mrs. Raymond E. Cox yesterday. Mrs. Cox is the wife of the Consul-General for the United States of America in New Zealand, Mr. Cox being a vice-president of the union. When thanking members for their hospitality, Mrs. cox paid a tribute to New Zealand women’s part in the war effort, and particularly mentioned the hospitality they extended to American servicemen, a gesture which was deeply appreciated. A spray of roses was presented to the guest of honour. Mrs. David Gasquoine played, and accompanied Mrs. Inch, who sang. Mrs. Miller gave elocutionary items. The artists received floral posies. Mrs E. D. Good, chairman of the women’s committee;, was hostess. Lady Pomnro and Mrs. K. Preston, two of the vice-presidents, were among the guests. The women’s committee served tea. Among the silk suits now showing at Agnes Samson’s is a lovely little suit In black crepe. The skirt is cleverly cut and the belted jacket has the lapels and the pocket laps embroidered at the edges in black broderie- anglaise. Another smart suit is black and white silk patterned in a design of spots and. stripes. The skirt is straight and 1 the coat has three patch pockets. Agnes Samson, Lambton Quay.—Advt.
