HOME GUARD OFFICERS
Chance For Commissions In The Army The statement that it was incorrect to say that Home Guard officers were given no opportunity of: obtaining commissions‘in the Army and that, on the contrary, they- received special consideration, was made by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, replying to a question by Mr. Hoy (Opposition, Clutlia). . ■ ' ,
Explaining the procedure, Mr. Jones said that when a Home Guard officer was called up by ballot for the Territorial Force he was reccommended for immediate appointment to a temporary. commission in the Territorial Force, if it, was decided that his capabilities warranted such action, without being first sent' to an O’.C.T.U. In other cases if an officer was considered unsuitable he was sent to an officers’ or n.c.o.s’ training course and posted in due • course to a Territorial Force Unit as an officer or n.e.0." according to the ability' shown at the course. .
