R.A.F. TOO GOOD FOR LUFTWAFFE
Mr. Barrow’s Observations VISIT TO BRITAIN NEARLY ENDED (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Special Correspondent.) (Received October 21, 9.15 p.m.) LONDON, October 20. The visit of Mr. T. A. Barrow, New Zealand Air Secretary, is now drawing to a close. He is attending the daily conference at the Air Ministry, where he is discussing the Empire air training scheme which will be carried on till at least 1945. Mr. Barrow is actingchairman of the sub-committee on finance, in the absence of the financial ad- , viser. In five weeks, Mr. Barrow has visited live out of the six New Zealand squadrons and has also met many New Zealanders at other stations throughout Britain. He said he was impressed by their splendid morale, their keenness and also their good health. (Mr. Barrow has been given every opportunity to study the R.A.F.’s organization. He was particularly cheer-
ed and interested to observe the R.A.E.’s apparent supremacy over the Luftwaffe, which is shown both by reports and also by the accounts of pilots returning from operations, who state it is very hard tQ find a German aircraft. Mr. Barrow met (he Secretary of State for Air, Sir Archibald Sinclair, and the Parliamentary Under-Secre-tary, Mr. Balfour, also all members of the Air Council, having attended several Air Council meetings. He discussed with Lord Keynes, Bursar of King’s College, Cambridge, and the Provost the question of scholarships being awarded to New Zealand airmen. Negotiations in this connexion are proceeding.
