The Ballot in Australia. In Australia it was suggested at n conference between clubs and the Government that an age limit should 'be placed on horses, and subsequently the Prime Minister, Mr. Curtin, announced that “clubs had agreed to take steps to eliminate the poorer class of racehorse, and to give preference to younger horses.’’ Recently the V.R.C. declared against the “poorer class” of racehorses from South Australia. Scarcely a week has gone by without at least one South Australian horse winning in Melbourne. If the Prime Minister is insistent on the A.J.C. s suggestion being, adopted by all clubs (says the “Sporting Globe ), the will be faced with the impossl’ble task ot laving down a definition of a -horse for this category. The more one ponders over the question, the 'more one is convinced that nobody can say that any horse will not develoip into il first-class performer. It would not surprise, if the V.R.C. instead of Imposing an age limit or other class restriction, were to continue with the ballot to reduce fields to the required size.
