HEAVY BOOKINGS

Demand For Rail Seats Tc Palmerston North Bookings ou trams out of Wellington are unusually heavy, according to an officer of the Railways Department. Sleeping accommodation is practically full up till the end of tbe week, with the weekend trains fully booked. “Our greatest difficulty, however, is bookings to Palmerston North,” said the officer. “These arc exceptionally heavy, and it would seem that people are proceeding in ‘jumps’ owing to the 100-mue permit restriction. Palmerston North passengers can only be allotted a reserved seat if the seat is ‘double-booked,’ that is, booked on from Palmerston by another passenger.” The officer said that the Wellington position was not unite wo bad as that in Auckland, where, according to report, very few seats are available for more than a week ahead.
