BEING REINFORCED

Japanese On Kiska NEW YORK, October 18. Reconnaissance by planes bas disclosed that the Japanese are reinforcing the Kiska garrison and building new installations on the south side of the island, says the Associated Press correspondent at Alaskan headquarters. The Japanese probably are transferring troops to Kiska from tbe other Aleutian Islands which have been found unfit for bases. “Army bombers, on October 16, carried out a low-altitude attack on two Japanese destroyers off Kiska,” state*? a U.S. Navy Department communique. ‘‘The attack lasted 45 minutes, and resulted in five hits 1 on one destroyer and four on the other. Heavy explosions and tires resulted. When last seen, both ships were burning and the crewr» had abandoned them. We lost one bomber.”
