BEEF BULL SEASON DRAWS TO A CLOSE
The end of thia month will see draw to a close the 1942 Beef Bull Sales season which opened auspiciously at Gisborne in mid-September with the Walhuka Herefords selling at a 25 per cent advance u P on and reached all-time record realizations at Dannevirke and Akitio sales last week There the overall average, for the two events, was approximately double that of 1941 realizations. At certain of the intermediate local sales the results were not so outstanding At some, however, there were realizations quite in keeping with th 6 Factors ‘con'tributing to the great s ales in 1942 have been the appreciation of quality in beef, a tendency continuing onward since the introduction of chilling in 1937, the excellent feed conditions, the high importance of beef production as a war effort on the part of this Dominion, and, finally, the small prospect of importing any beef stock from overseas for some years to be Among the sales yet to come are two of consequence in the Poverty Bay distrfcT-the single offering of “Tirihana” that well may rival AkiHo’s in returns and average,, and the Wairoa Combined Breeders, event that should have assured success, on its quality of stock and the price standards that have been set.
