Two Japanese Destroyers Damaged (British official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 17. The United States Navy Department states: Ten to 15 army Marauder bombers attacked a;id damaged a cargo ship at Gertrude Gove on the south coast of Kiska Island. At least one direct hit set fire to the ship, which was still burning several hours later. One United States (plane was shot down by anti-aircraft fire. Marauder bombers also attacked two Japanese destroyers north-east of Kiska. Both were damaged,. one by three hits and the other by a hit, resulting in the probable sinking of the former. An earlier communique said: “Longrange bombers on October 11 dropped six tons of demolition bombs on a camp in the Kiska area. Tlie results were not observed. On Wednesday, army Liberator bombers, accompanied by Lightning fightere, dropped incendiary bombs on a camp in the Kiska area, starting many large fires, No enemy aircraft opposition was encountered. “Our lighters destroyed three enemy seaplanes on the water. One of our planes s - as lost. Three beached and two sunken ships as a result of previous Hioniibings ■ were observed near Kiska harbour.”
