Medallion Claimed Work Of Contemporary (Received October IS, 5.30 p.m.) LONDON, October 17. What is claimed to be an authentic portrait of Christ has been found in an Italian private collection, according to the “Giornale d’ltalia,” which says it is the work of a contemporary artist who probably witnessed the Crucifix--lOprofessor Rostovgeff found the portrait, which is on a medallion, dunn ß excavations at Dura Europe, in byna. Christ is represented on the cross,.looking at His mother, who is leaning against the cross, with St. John. standing beside her. The medallion is believed to have once belonged to an anostle There is an inscription on tne back “Si Os,” which Italian experts believe to be an abbreviation of the engraver’s name, also two Roman sixes, meaning the sixth hour of Christ s suffeXSowner, Madame Della Paolerm is stated to have been offered £300, 000 for the medallion by a Chilean col lector. _
