COMPULSORY CALL-UP
Women For Industry In Australia LONGER HOURS SOON (Received October 16, 7 p.m.) CANBERRA, October 15. The compulsory call-up of Australian ■women when proper facilities are available for them in industry, has been announced by the Prime Minister, Mr. Curtin. Longer hours will be worked in factories, offices and the Civil Service where the present hours are considered too short. Idle men ami women will be called up to assist the war effort, and the Direc-tor-General of Manpower will be given extensive powers to transfer men and women from one employment to another. A reduction in consumption of 'foodstuffs is also to bo considered. Mr. Curtin said there was a prospective delay in fulfilling the manpower requirements for 1942, including considerable array reinforcements, and the tempo of Australia’s manpower drive must be accelerated. Arrangements will also be made for part-time employment of women in a wide range of industries.
TEA RATION INCREASED
(Received October 16, 7 p.m.) MELBOURNE, October 16. Australia’s tea ration has been increased to -Jib. every four weeks instead of every five weeks.
