WELLINGTON CITY FINANCES
Less Expenditure On Works
Commenting on the general account of the district fund as at September 30, the mayor of Wellington, Mr. Hislop, at a meeting of the city council last night, said that it was quite satisfactory. There was a possibility that the estimates for E.I’.S. expenditure might be cut down, not because of a diminution of activities, but because certain expenditure originally expected would probably not now be required. The. mayor pointed out that committees of the council might give consideration to a reduction of the estimates originally framed, since inability to obtain men and materials, and the transfer of the control of certain areas to the Government, meant that works contemplated could not be carried out. The general account would then be in a healthier position. Due to expenditure in one'direction or another, the contingencies fund had now been reduced to £BOO for the remainder of the financial year.
