SEATING CHANGES

Rearrangement Following Political Crisis Some interest was aroused among members of Parliament yesterday in the rearrangement of front-bench Opposition seats in the House of Representatives following the withdrawal of the National Party from the War Administration and the consequent difference of opinion between Messrs. Coates and Hamilton on the one hand and other members of the party on the other. Mr. Polson has taken the place of Mr. Hamilton, who formerly sat in the same bench as the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Holland. Mr. Hamilton has moved into another front-bench seat in place of Sir Alfred Ransom, who has gone into a front-bench seat vacated by Mr. Kyle, who now shares a cross-bench with Mr. Lee. Mr. Coates has not shifted from his old place in the Opposition benches, and is now joined by Mr. Hamilton.

Whether the council had power to stop a rooster crowing was debated, at an Ashburton Borough Council meeting ■when nothing could be found in the bylaws to show that the council had any jurisdiction in the matter. 2V complaint was received from a resident that a rooster kept in a pen by a neighbour annoyed the neighbourhood by crowing in the early hours of the morning. It was decided to reply that, the council had no power to stop the rooster crowing.
