An . average entry of cows and heifers sold steadily, and quotations remain on a par with last week. There was a good yarding of calves, bidding being keen for all prime runners and vealers, but values were generally slightly easier. An average entry of pigs met steady competition throughout and values for all classes were about equal to last week. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 14. Fat cattle advanced by about £3 a head at today’s Addington market, prices being thi** highest for some years. Entries generally were small in other sections and prices were firmer. Improved feed conditions resulted in a small yarding _of store sheep, numbering about 2000, against -1006 last week. The yarding was mainly confined to shipped four, six, and eight-tooth wethers, which were offered in better order than the previous consignment and sold readily from 22/6 to 28/-. A few- pens or good Romney ewe hoggets sold readily from 26/- to 40/-. Ewes and lambs were also in short supply, and they sold at from 14/- to 18/-, all counted. The fat .sheep entry was slightly larger than nsual, but there was agalu a good sale. Light njltldred shipped shorn wethers were included. Both ewes and wethers increased in price on last week’s rates by 3/-jt head ; best wethers, 45/- to 50/-; tops to no/’I medium, 30/- to 44/-; best shorn, to 40/-: prime woolly ewes, 38/- to 43/-; tops, 51/-, medium. 30/- to 34/-. . Fat. cattle showed the smallest entry for some years, numbering 262 head and this resulted in a record sale. The quality was not as good as In recent weeks, much of the yarding being, on the piain side and apparently the tail-end ot c-ratts -vrl.ici l have been in steady supply for some time. The mild winter no doubt enabled . manj steers to be sent forward which ordinarllv would be held over till later for finishing off, anil the improved feed conditions in the last week have encouraged graziers to hold on for a little longer. An advance of about £3 a head was recorded all round. Best beef sold at from 07/- to Ou/- 1001 b • special, to 62/-; medium to g?md. 53/- to 36/-; heavy to 52/6; inferior to 43/-. One line of 19 steers averaged £*26/2/6, and another of 15 averaged £‘-4 17/There was a medium yarding of porkers, and prices showed a slight decrease of from ”/- to -1/- a head, with the average nriee a lb. Old. to lid. Choppers were also In medium supply and values ranged from £3/10/- to £5/3/6, being easier by tn- to 10/- a head. The yarding in the bacon section was smaller than usual. Competition was exceedingly keen and prices showed a further rise of about 5/- a head, ranging from .£-1/19/6 to £7/1/-; average SJd. to lOd. a lb.

MASTERTON, October 14. A good yarding of sheep and small yard Ings of pigs and cattle eame forward at the-' Masterton weekly sale today. Prices were good throughout .there being a total clearance under the hammer. The sheep realizations were: — Woolly fat wethers, 32/6 to 35/-; fat shorn wethers, 30/4 to 30/7; fat shorn hoggets, 24/6 to ■’7/1 ■ fat shorn ewes. 16/10 to 17/3: fat woollv ewes. 23/10 to 24/7; light fat woolly ewes, "1/6 to 23/0: fat S.D. ewes. 25/3: woollv ewes with b.f. lambs nt foot, nil counted, 17/7 to IS/-; woolly ewe hoggets, 26/10 to 30/-; fat woolly hoggets, 27/6 to £l2, £l2/10/- to £2l.
