FAILURE TO ACCOUNT
* Salesman Found Guilty
Ernest Keyvar, salesman, was found guilty by a jury in the Supreme Court, Wellington, yesterday, on four counts of receiving sums of money on terms requiring him to account for or pay them to his then employers. Electric Refrigeration (N.Z.), Limited, and fraudulently omitting to do so, thereby, committing theft. >,•... The charges against accused were as follows:—December 22, 1941, receiving from Robert Stanley Green, Wellington, £l/16/6 for radio repairs; February 3, 1942, receiving from Beatrice Maud Davies, Masterton, £1 as deposit for an electric kettle; February 26, 1942, receiving from Edith Mary Dobbie, Nelson, £2/7/6, as payment for an electric kettle; February 27, 1942, receiving from Anita Betty May Gough £3/6/-, as payment for an electric kettle. Mr. W. 11. Cunningham conducted the prosecution, and Mr. W. J. Stacey appeared for accused, who pleaded not guilty. After hearing the evidence, counsels addresses to the jury, and his .Honour’s summing-up, the jury retired at 5.43 p.m., and returned in about 40 minutes with a verdict of guilty on all counts. Mr. Justice Blair remanded accused for sentence.
