“The position at Rotorua is desperate,” said Mr. F. Findlay, chairman of the Waikato Hospital Board, when referring to the need for further accommodation at the Rotorua Hospital. Mr. Findlay said that 1500 out-patients were treated at the hospital each month and the number sometimes reached 70 a day. There was no suitable waiting-room, and patients had to wait and undress in the corridor. Mr. J. Banks said the town medical service was understaffed and hospital doctors were called out to attend emergency eases. The board authorized the erection of additional accommodation for out-patients.
