Keen racing with several close finishes featured the Otakl Maori Racing Club's spring meeting held on Saturday in fine hot weather. The track was firm and fast. There‘was a large attendance and the totalizator investments of £32,122/10/- represented an increase of £10,332/10/- on the spring turnover last year. The champion jockey, W. J. Broughton, rode three winners iu succession, and was very unlucky not to make it four. There was an accident in the a P? n sprint, when Saint Tor fell and caused tne favourite, 'Moutoa Bond, to lose her rider. The jockeys, A. Waddell and J. Garth, escaped injury. In the same race, IV. carter, rider of Parlato, severely injured a foot through striking the running rail. ■ Acrobat, who is now qjvned and trainee! in Otaki, scored a comfortable win in tne hurdles. Race Away led at a great pace, jumping in dashing style, but he was beluir overhauled when he fell at the last fence. At this stage Glaciate, Acrobat, and Henry of Huntingdon w er ® handy to the leader, and they went on to till tne places in the order named, with Vitement taking fourth.
