BIG DIVIDEND AT AUCKLAND
Lavaals Wins Cup
REPRESENTATIVE FIRST IN GUINEAS
By Jelegbaph. —From The Watcher. AUCKLAND, October 11. A sensational win dividend by Lovaals, winner of the Mitcbelson Cup, ■Representafive’s decisive win in the Great Northern Guineas, a close finish in the Welcome Stakes, won by Olga’s Pal, and good prices by Aero King and .Marble Fox, respective winners of the sprint events, featured the spring meeting of the Auckland Raciu. Club at Ellerslie. Unfortunately for followers of form the track was very sott due to heavy showers during the mornin e th coin- being decidedly in favour ot those horses with ability to handle it. There was a large attendance, and the turnover of £97,658/10/- was an increase of £27,46on last. year. The .Mitehelson Cup drew a held of .h, but it was a disappointing race, as the hr&t two horses, Lovaals and 1 oxsen, ran Nfeht awav from the others, in the straight and had ’the finish to themselves. Lovaals was a rank outsider and paid a win dividend approaching three-quarters of a century, but her win was well merited. She rev died in the soft going and. taking over the pace six furlongs from home, she really never looked like ’being caught. Foxsen was the only runner who ever got near her. She drew up to Lovaals a furlon„ from home, but Lovaals was too .full ot running to be beaten. Another big outsider in Ascot Bloom rau on 'best of the others for third, with Centrepoise fourth. Then Little Rose, Erndale, and Hinkler. CentrepoisO wiis third to last early, , and though he Improved his position over the last five furlongs, he was never a Possibility. He was well backed, as track conditions favoured him. The faVO '!J^ > n Regal Fox lay handy for seven furlongs, but he was reefing and pulling very hard all the way. and was beaten a long wav from home. Battled’ress was back with Centrepoise in most of the. running. and he was out of the possibilities at all stages, finishing second to last. Justina fell at the six furlongs, and Mansura and Sea-Law fell over her r _„ al . Nine three-year-olds contested the Great Northern Guineas, Indian Princess being the only filly. Backers of .the. hot favourite, Bonny Pay, were relieved of their money very early, in the race as he got a bad jump at tlie’six furlongs and dropped right out of the race. Representative scored a solid and decisive victory, coming from seventh .place in -the running to wear down Indian Princess and win going awav after Indian Princess had disposed of the pacemaker, Beau Vaals, soon after entering the straight. Nizam, always handy, held on for a fair third, but both he and Beau Vaals, w’ho finished fourth, were weakening. ~ , A big field of 18 two-year-olds hued up for the Welcome Stakes, in which the. hot favourite, Brief, c’ould finish only filth. He did not begin very well, and afterward met a bit of a check, but it was not the performance of a really good favourite. The event was won narrowly but very well by Olga’s Pal, a ’half-brother to Night Eruption. He got out well, and though he drifted a little round the turn, be finished very straight and. stoutly to head Laddie Boy and Foxwyn on the post, with Look Again 'fourth. Then camo Brief, Gav Winkle and Hot Speech. Laddie Boy was always prominent, but Foxwyn came from a good way back. , Aero King, showed his appreciation ot track conditions by an all-the-way win in the Shorts Handicap, but he was a bit ' lucky to beat Transmitter, who finished strongly and just failed to get up after a slow beginning. The favourite, Cherry s Ticket, finished best ot all in this race, but she was too far away earlj; to have any chance. Kentish again failed to make a showing. nr . ~ _ . „ A solid (performance (by Marble Fox won him the Flying Handicap. Third last early, he moved up on the outer round the turn and ran on to wear down Foxola, who. found the task o£.:.couceding two stone a little too much,. .Radiant Vaals finished over Route ’March for third. Route March followed his stablemate,. and the favourite, Cambria, into : the straight, where* they both weakened; ; .. Details Of The Racing (By Telegraph—Press Association.)
